About the project
Pixieset Portfolios is a website builder catered specifically to photographers, designed to take all the hassle and effort out of building a beautiful online presence.
We understood early that many photographers are frustrated by the process of making a website themselves. They often lack the time and motivation to tackle working with complex tools like WordPress, while big name platforms like Squarespace offer more power than is usually required and at the same time, lack specific options designed to make a photographers work really shine.
We also understood that photographers don’t really care about making websites. They care about taking great photos and booking work. We knew therefore that success was going to lie in creating a fast, smooth “couple of clicks experience”. We wanted photographers to feel like they were taking huge strides forward by using the platform, and ultimately had a website they were happy with in as short a time as possible, so they could get back to doing what they love.
I worked closely with the rest of the Pixieset team across every aspect of design, from conceptualisation of the product itself to art direction of the website themes, carefully building out the hundreds of blocks required for those themes to work, crafting the UI’s look and feel, and individual concept-driven systems such as how typography and colour work. All while keeping a holistic understanding of the entire UX/UI and how it fits into the suite of Pixieset products.
